Are the 2025 KS1 SATs compulsory?
No. KS1 SATs are not compulsory anymore. Since 2023, they became optional. Each school can choose whether or not their Year 2 children sit these tests. Your child’s teacher will let you know if your school is using them.
Which children take the KS1 SATs?
KS1 SATs are for children in Year 2, who are aged 6 to 7 years old. The tests usually take place during May. Not all schools will use them as they are now optional.
What subjects are in the 2025 KS1 SATs papers?
The 2025 KS1 SATs cover three subjects: English Reading, Maths, and Grammar, Punctuation & Spelling (also called GPS or SPaG). The GPS paper is optional. Teachers also assess children in Writing and Science separately.
What is the pass mark for the 2025 KS1 SATs?
