English Reading Paper
Length: 60 minutes
Format:
- One paper containing 3 texts (fiction, non-fiction, poetry)
- Followed by a variety of question types:
- Multiple choice
- Short answers
- Long answers (inference, explanation)
- Total Marks: 50
Skills Assessed:
- Retrieval of information
- Inference and deduction
- Vocabulary in context
- Summary and explanation
Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (SPaG)
Paper 1: Questions
- Length: 45 minutes
- Format: Short questions
- Tick-boxes, sentence correction, word class identification, etc.
- Total Marks: 50
Skills Assessed:
- Sentence structure
- Grammar rules (e.g. verb tense, clauses)
- Punctuation (commas, apostrophes, colons, etc.)
- Word classes (nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc.)
Paper 2: Spelling
- Length: ~15 minutes
- Format:
- 20 words dictated in the context of a sentence
- Pupils write the missing word
- Total Marks: 20
KS2 Maths SATs Paper Structure
Paper 1: Arithmetic
- Length: 30 minutes
- Questions: Around 36
- Total Marks: 40
- Focus:
- Core number skills
- Mental and written methods for:
- Addition & subtraction
- Multiplication & division
- Fractions, decimals, and percentages
Paper 2: Reasoning
- Length: 40 minutes
- Questions: ~20
- Total Marks: 35
- Focus:
- Problem solving
- Applying mathematical knowledge in context
- Multi-step problems
Paper 3: Reasoning (2nd reasoning paper)
- Length: 40 minutes
- Format: Similar to Paper 2
- Total Marks: 35
- Slightly more complex reasoning and multi-step word problems
